Titanium Dioxide

May 04, 2017

Titanium dioxide (chemical formula: TiO₂), white or powdered amphoteric oxide, molecular weight: 79.83, is a white inorganic pigment, with non-toxic, best opacity, optimum whiteness and brightness, is considered the current world The best performance of a white pigment. Titanium white adhesion is strong, not easy to change from the chemical, is always white. Widely used in coatings, plastics, paper, printing inks, chemical fiber, rubber, cosmetics and other industries. It is very high melting point, also used to make refractory glass, glaze, enamel, clay, high temperature of the experimental utensils and so on.

At the same time, titanium dioxide has a better ultraviolet shielding effect, often as a sunscreen into the textile fiber, ultra-fine titanium dioxide powder is also added into the sunscreen cream made of sunscreen cosmetics.

Titanium dioxide can be extracted from rutile by acid, or by the decomposition of titanium tetrachloride. Titanium dioxide is stable and heavily used as a white pigment in paint. It has a good ability to cover and is similar to lead white, but unlike lead white it turns black; it has the same durability as zinc white. Titanium dioxide is also used as enamel matting agent, can produce a very bright, hard and acid enamel enamel surface.

Titanium dioxide is generally anatase type (Anatase, referred to as A type) and rutile type (Rutile, referred to as R type).
